Steps to install Microsoft Teams

Microsoft added a new tool in November 2016 to the Office 365 suite of services, Microsoft Teams. What is this tool and what is its function?

Microsoft Teams:

A chatting tool that provides groups and business friends in distant countries the ability to work together and share information across a common space.

You can also take advantage of great features such as document collaboration, one-to-one chat, group chat, and more.

Microsoft Teams is also fully integrated with many other Office 365 services, such as Skype, SharePoint, Exchange, and Yammer.

The following core capabilities are included in Teams:

Chat: Enjoy public and private conversations with your team.
Hub: This feature gives you and your team the option to work locally without having to tap to switch between apps while you’re trying to complete projects.

Steps to install Microsoft Teams

Step 1: Verify that you have the correct license

The first thing you need to do is get an Office 365 subscription. You will be asked to sign in after downloading the service.

You need either a free or trial subscription to Microsoft Teams, or a full subscription to Office 365.

And if you have any privacy apps on your phone, you should make sure that they allow access to Microsoft Teams.

Step 2: Download Microsoft Teams

Click on this link, if you are an Android phone user. And if your phone depends on the iOS system, you can download it from the App Store, through this link.

Then hit the download button to add it to your phone.
After opening the application, a screen will appear allowing you to log in to your account, and press Login.
Then enter the Office 365 data you got when you signed up for the account with your business.
Then you’ll get some initial how-to steps that introduce you to the app and how it works.
During this initial phase of Teams setup, it’s a good idea to make sure you have all the permissions you need.

Go to the Settings tab, then tap Apps.
Then select the Microsoft Teams app, and scroll down to Permissions, you’ll be able to control what kind of information Microsoft can access. You can also turn notifications on and off.

Step 3: Find your way around the app

The great thing about Microsoft Teams is that you get pretty much the same experience whether you’re using a desktop or a mobile app, which means you should be very familiar with the interface if you’ve already used Teams elsewhere.

The app also walks you through some of the initial setup requirements, so it’s great for beginners.

If you want to tweak aspects of your Microsoft Teams experience, tap the three horizontal lines at the top right of the Settings screen. The settings menu gives you access to things like status messages and the option to turn notifications on and off.

You can also check additional settings, such as turning the screen into dark mode. You can also set notifications to be muted after a specific time each day. This may be helpful if you struggle with work-life balance.

Step 4: Finish setting up Microsoft Teams

After completing the previous steps, you can either go directly to messaging your colleagues at this point, or make some changes to the Teams app, such as changing your profile picture and displaying your activity, or updating your email address or phone number.

Other settings include:

Messaging: View channels in your chat list.
Opening times: Gives you access to reminders for the working times you have set.
Information: information about the mobile application, and details of privacy.
Help and Feedback: Provide feedback to Microsoft about the app.
Report a problem: Report issues to Microsoft that you might encounter with the app.
At the bottom of the app screen, you’ll see different icons that you can use to communicate with your colleagues, including: phone and video icons. Click it to start a call.

You can also click on a colleague’s name to send them a message, just like sending a text message.

Microsoft Teams is one of the great tools that Microsoft gave us for communication and collaboration, and it combines continuous chat, video calls, and file storage.
